We’ve Moved!

After almost exactly four years renting office space at the DaVinci Vault, Altius has now moved to a new facility in Broomfield, CO. The Vault was a wonderful coworking environment, and we were grateful of how tolerant they were of us doing hardware prototyping in what was meant to be an office environment, and we’ll miss having meetings in the former bank vault, but it’s good to finally be in our own office/shop.

Our new address is:

Altius Space Machines, Inc.
3001 Industrial Lane, Unit #5
Broomfield, CO 80020

Here’s us on a map:

The new facility is 3500 square feet, with about two thirds office space and one third shop/warehouse space. We moved in two weeks ago today, and are now back into the normal swing of things. I would’ve blogged sooner, but we had two Asteroid Redirect Mission related Interim Briefings in the past week and a half, so I’ve only now had the time to write this.

Here’s some pictures from the move and from our new “terrestrial HQ”:

Packing up our old office. Almost 4yrs to the day from when we moved in. It was really kind of crazy seeing this place empty after all the time we’ve worked here.

The previous occupant had some nice furniture that was too much of a hassle to move, so we got a good deal on these nice wood desks/shelves. The desks are modular, so we may yet split it into two desk units in two different offices. We have room for growth at this facility, with five cubicles, and four office spaces each as big as the room we had three of us crammed into at the Vault.

In addition to the office and cubicle areas, we have a “war room” for engineering meetings. We’ll eventually have a bunch of white boards in here. We also have a reception area (that I forgot to take a picture of), and a new conference room. While the conference room isn’t in an old steel bank vault, and doesn’t have the “$100M conference table”, it’s still good to have our own conference room. It’s also good to have a better telecom setup, with a Polycom and a landline (instead of using cellphones or VOIP for conference calls).

It will be very nice to have a shop area collocated with our office. As I’ve mentioned before on many occasions, the DaVinci folks were super tolerant of us assembling hardware and doing light electronics work in our office, but now we have actual shop facilities. And just in time too! Some of the prototypes we’ll be building for our MIDAS and Kraken Asteroid Boulder Retrieval System projects are going to require a lot of space. It’s also nice to have the shop tools and benches moved out of my garage. And with all of the space we have here, Dan and Mike have been putting some of their “Friday Time” money into buying some new equipment, including a large, heavy-duty CNC router, some new workbenches, and a chop saw.

Anyhow, I wanted to end this post with one of my favorite pictures–the view from the front door of our new “Terrestrial Headquarters”:
